SD Birth Matters, the last remaining statewide organization advocating for informed, empowered, non-hospital birth options in South Dakota, is proud to announce a major relaunch of its provider directory and membership platform.
With renewed urgency and vision, SD Birth Matters is revamping its efforts to educate, connect, and support families seeking midwife-assisted births, doula care, and holistic prenatal and postpartum services.
“This isn’t just a directory. It’s a community infrastructure for birth justice in South Dakota,” said the organization’s founder Mandy Froelich. “We’re building a future where more families feel safe, informed, and respected in their birthing choices — wherever and however they choose to birth.”
🌀 A Critical Moment for Birth Autonomy in South Dakota
As South Dakota faces rising medicalization of birth and closure of rural maternity units, options outside the hospital system have become more essential — and harder to find. SD Birth Matters is the only statewide effort still actively supporting access to midwives, doulas, and holistic providers.
The new online directory helps solve this by allowing families to:
- Find trusted birth workers by region, specialty, and availability
- Access services that reflect diverse values, from homebirth to trauma-informed postpartum care
- Connect directly with midwives, doulas, educators, lactation consultants, and herbalists

The new platform is also a tool for community-building among providers — giving them visibility, networking, and the ability to self-manage their profiles.
